From 1960 when she was born to 1979, Qianfoshan Hospital had experienced a tough period. As time goes by, the hospital itself has undergone a magnificent change, with the history as the witness.

Lying at the north side of the scenic Qianfoshan Mountain in Jinan, the City of Springs, Qianfoshan Hospital is a large provincial 3 A-level hospital that has comprehensive functions of medical service, teaching, scientific research, rehabilitation, precaution and first-aid treatment. The hospital covers an area of nearly 100 thousand m2, with 1800 employees and 1400 bedspaces. The total assets have reached more than 1.15 billion yuan, in which the equipments take 300 million yuan. The hospital owns more than 500 equipments and facilities that worth more than 100 thousand yuan.
The hospital was first built in 1960, with only 40 bedspaces and no more than 100 employees. In the following 20 years the hospital was revoked, merged and suffered several times.
In 1965, the hospital was incorporated into Shandong University.
In 1968, he buildings of the hospital was taken over by Jinan Military Command as it guesthouse.
In 1972, the hospital restored to operation.
In 1976, the hospital merged with the Shandong Traditional Chinese Medicine Institute and established the Institute of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine.
In 1979, Qianfoshan Hospital was be resumed organizational status and be determined to build into a provincial comprehensive hospital open to the public with health care to the cadres as a main task.
It was the 15 years from 1979 to 1995 that the hospital restored and regrouped. The hospitals laid a solid basis for infrastructures, personnel training, discipline development and innovation management. The out-patient building, surgical building and health-care building have been set up successively. Many renowned experts with high reputation have contributed to the development of the hospital,(surgery experts Li Zhaoting, Bi Yuhua and Jia Shuxian, cardiologists Lin Shaofang, Qinchuanqiu and Yu Tian, pathologist Gao Zhongyu, gastroenterologiests Zhang Zhaohua and Zhang Qin, cerebral surgeon YanYu, dermatologist Liu Zhenzhi, pediatrician Chen Bingran, dentist Wang Yaxian, rheumatologiest Zhang Hongkui, obstetrician and gynaecologist Lou Huisheng, anesthesiologist, Li Dianzhi, clinical laboratory expert Zhu Changshu, nutritionist Zhang Ruling, ultrasonic expert Zhang Huaqing and etc.). The Dept.of General Surgery，Cardiology，Gastroenterology and Stomatology had begun to take features and lain the foundation for hospital development.

The year 1995 is a milestone in the hospital rapid development of signs. The hospital was successfully assessed as a 3 A-level hospital.

In 1996, the hospital adopted a new strategy, which laid a solid foundation for the sustainable development of the hospital, and built a broader platform for the medical services expansion. ( Kang Yongjun、Chu Kuichen、Liu Chunjie、Xi Yan and Lu Shangyuan) In 2007, the building for out-patient service designed by the famous Australian designer was put into use. The modern, intelligent and international standard building provides good conditions and a strong driving force for the hospital development.

Discipline construction has achieved remarkable accomplishments. The Dept. of General Surgery is a key provincial discipline in medical science evaluated by Shandong Health Department, and also the site where the Shandong General Surgery Quality Control Center. Besides, the laboratory of general surgery is a key provincial laboratory of medical science. Early in 1983, Professor Li Zhaoting divided the general surgery into four specialties, which set a precedent in Shandong Province. With the effort of Professor Li Zhaoting and his students Yu Xuezhi, Hu Zongze, Zhao Shuo, Li Yushan and Ruan Changle, the Dept. of General Surgery of the hospital has taken a leading role in Shandong. Cultivated by the old experts, a number of middle-aged and young experts grow up quickly into the pillar of the hospital (Yu Zhenhai, Liu Aiwu, Li Jie, Teng Mujian, Xia Lijian, Zhang Shuguang, Gu He and Fu Rongzhan and etc.). They have made some of the technologies and projects leading the provincial and even national level.
With advantages in cardiac surgery, the therapy and treatment of cardiovascular disease of the hospital has reached a provincial-leading level. Under the guidance of old experts such as Lin Shaofang, Yu Tian, Lou Zimo and Wang Chunxiang, a number of experts (Xing Qichong, Hou Yinglong, Yan Suhua, Li Guohua Liu Luqi, Liu Tianqi and Wang Minghua) have yielded substantial achievements in fields of Radiofrequency catheter ablation tachyarrhythmias, interventional diagnosis and treatment of coronary heart disease, transplantation of permanent cardiac pacemaker, heart transplantation, development of bio-prosthetic heart valve, coronary artery bypass grafting and child congenital heart disease. Interventional therapy of coronary heart disease, especially Emergency PCI and ACI are at the top level in Shandong.

Gerontology is traditional strengths discipline. Under the leadership of Director Zhou Liaosheng, abundant experiences have been accumulated in the treatment of geriatric diseases of AMI, ACVD, hypertension and epilepsy. The Dept. of International Medical Service opened in 2009 provides a better health care platform for foreign guests.
In diagnosis and treatment of aspects of the nervous system diseases, with the integration of the Dept. of Neurology, the Dept. of Neurosurgery, the Dept. of TCM and the Dept. of Rehabilitation Medicine, it has brought the professional and technical forces to the leading position in Shandong. Currently, the bedspaces of the Dept. of Neurology has increased to 80, ranking the 1st in Shandong. Led by Professor Liu Shushan and Zhang Qinglin, famous experts in neurosurgery, the Dept. of Neurosurgery has taken a large number of treatment tasks of brain tumor, traumatic brain injury and angioma with exquisite technologies, advanced facilities and qualified services. The Dept. of Stroke Specialist under the leadership of Director Li Changsheng, together with the Dept. of Rehabilitation Medicine was nominated the key unit of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine during the Eleventh Five-year Plan and the key discipline of Shandong Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The rescue of critical hepatopathy of the Dept. of Gastroenterology is now at the provincial leading level under the leadership of Director Liu Qian. Based on the technical advantages, Shandong Hepatopathy Consulting Center was founded in 1987 with well-known experts in Shandong. During its history of more than 20 years, many patients with liver diseases were restored to health here.
The First Aid Center of the hospital was the only 120 branch center in provincial hospitals. Under the leadership of Director Xie Jian, the center sticks to the service philosophy of “patients first”. All experts of the hospital are included into the emergency system, with four green first aid tunnels and relevant treatment procedures. By providing one package first aid service, the hospital makes the treatment faster, safer and more effective.
For the treatment of tumor, the hospital will pick up the best protocol suitable for the patients out of many under the joint consultation of the oncologists, which largely raises the survival rate and the life quality of the patients. The first “gynaecologic tumor consultation group” was established in Qianfoshan Hospital.
The Dept. of Pathology is the site where the Shandong Pathology Quality Control Center is located. Director Gao Zhongyu, famous pathologist, is the founding father of the center. Under the leadership of Director Sun Qing, the department undertakes the pathological tasks in Jinan. In addition, it now has become the consulting center of pathology of Shandong.
Besides, under the leadership of Director Dang Guangfu, the Dept. of Ophthalmology takes the leading role in Shandong in aspects of phacoemulsification for white cataract and vitreoretinal surgery.
 

Oral health care technology is also renowned inside and outside the province.
Anesthesiology Dept. is at the top level in Anesthesia of Organ Transplatation and Critically ill patients. The Dept. of Pharmacy is at forefront of the country’s Clinical Pharmacist. The Clinical Laboratory Division is the only medical laboratory that has passed ISO15189 in Shandong, and the Shandong Clinical Nutrition Quality Control Center was founded and developed in the hospital.
The hospital prefers to implement to new technologies and items. 147 new technologies have been innovated in recent decade.
Organ transplantation has long been the key technology of the hospital, and also the cultivation base of Taishan Scholars. Currently, Qianfoshan Hospital is the only hospital having the qualifications of the transplantation of heart, liver and kidney simultaneously, and the only hospital that have the qualification of heart transplantation. In recent years, the hospital has developed new technologies of heart-kidney transplantation, liver-kidney transplantation, heart-lung transplantation, testis transplantation and cornea transplantation. Non-transfusion has been put into many cases of liver transplantation. The longest survival time after kidney transplantation is 18 years. Led by Professor Peng Zhihai, Taishan Scholar of organ transplantation, middle-aged and young experts such as Teng Mujian, Men Tongyi and Liu Tianqi have pushed the development of organ transplantation to a new peak. At present, 140 liver transplantation surgeries have been performed, kidney more than 650and heart transplantation 21. In terms of both the quantity and quality, Qianfoshan Hospital ranks the top in Shandong.
Minimally invasive endoscopic technology is another key technology of the hospital. More than 70 percent of the departments in the hospital have put it into use. The TEM technology performed by the Dept. of Gastrointestinal Surgery makes Qianfoshan Hospital the only two hospitals that are able to carry out the technology into practice, and ranks the top in country in terms of both the quantity and quality. technologies such as resectoscope, hard ureter endoscope, percutaneous nephroscope, the holmium laser therapy and soft ureter endoscope in the Dept. of Urology Led by Professor Li Qing, the esophageal resection under the combination of thoracoscopy and laparoscopic, cervical anastomosis and therapy of primary hyperhidrosis in the Dept. of Thoracic, the minimally invasive gynaecologic surgery through laparoscopic and hysteroscope performed by the Dept. of Obstetric and Gynecology led by Professor Rong Fengnian, the meningoencephalocele surgery and other technologies of the Dept. of ENT under the leadership of Director Wang Qirong, the arthroscopy operated led by Professor Zhang Ming, endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of pain-free subjects in Endoscope Diagnosis Dept. and etc., all have reached advanced provincial standard. Interventional technology has been put to use wildly in Dept. of Cardiology, Cardiac surgery, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics and Vascular Surgery.

Outstanding hospital relies on outstanding doctors. The hospital pays attention to personnel training and takes efforts to improve the level of scientific research.
